OUR AIM

APPRECIATING AFRICAN WOMEN AND GIRLS.

African Women Association was founded by Carol Nyazika and Lisa Chiriseri. The two young women are determined to change the perception of their continent and expose African women to what is possible within their own environment and community.

“Unless the women and girls in Africa arise, and we support them in rising, Africa cannot rise. This is the message we want to give.” Lakshni Puri – Assistant Secretary General and UN Women’s Deputy Executive Director

Recognition and honour uplifts and validates any woman. African Women Association (AWA) aims to show appreciation to the women, who are successful in Africa, women who are promoting peace in conflict-inflicted areas and contributing to the increased resources and productivity in their nations.

OUR PLATFORM

ANNUAL PRESTIGIOUS AFRICAN WOMEN AWARDS

AWA has different platforms that will fulfil AWA objectives. One of these platforms is the Annual Prestigious African Women Awards. They are looking to achieve women’s empowerment, development and contribute to gender equality. This is how AWA will contribute towards the 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDG). Goal 3 of the MDG is “to promote gender equality and empower women.”

Not only are we uplifting and encouraging the African woman, we aim to educate the world that Africa has a different story than the usual negative brand image associated with the African people, especially the women.

PROMOTING AFRICA’S STRONGEST RESOURCE

LEADING AND INFLUENCING PROGRESS

According to the World Bank, the rate of female entrepreneurship is higher in Africa than in any other region in the world. Despite this impressive statistics, not even the women residing in the same country or continent as a whole know the stories of these women in Africa. Individuals can quickly and accurately recite the success stories of women in the western countries but not their own countries.

African Women Association aims to be a part of the movement that will lead and influence progress across Africa and promote gender equality. AWA believes that the strongest resource in Africa is their people.

AWA is a non-profit organisation and which donate our proceeds towards sustainable social initiative schemes operating within the African community under our foundation – which is one of the platforms under the association.
